The Baylor University Stable Isotope Laboratory, located in Baylor Science Building B408, is a research facility in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
The Lab currently has two separate analytical systems for determining stable isotopic compositions of various geological and biological samples.
System A is designed for acquiring C/O/N/H isotopic compositions of bulk samples and is composed of the following instruments:
Thermo-Electron Delta V Advantage Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS) with a Dual Inlet system
Costech Elemental Combustion System
Thermo Finnigan TC/EA
Thermo Finnigan GasBench II
Speleothem Fluid Inclusion Extraction Device
System B is primarily used for compound-specific isotope analysis and contains a Thermo Trace 1310 Gas Chromatography Unit combined with a GC Isolink II device and another Thermo Delta V Advantage IRMS. A Thermo Flash EA was recently added to the system.
The Stable Isotope Lab is also equipped with a Mettler Toledo XP26 microbalance installed on an isolation table for high-accuracy and high-precision analytical measurements.
